Trevor Levis has died aged 91, the last surviving male of a family which had arrived to farm south of Paengaroa in the late 1800s. Their first home was in a cave, and the track from Maketu to Rotorua (marked by tall manuka sticks) passed through their land; this is now SH2. Great hardships were endured, but a stunning dairy farm emerged. It is now all kiwifruit. Some years ago Trevor brought his wonderful old farming photographs to show us, and he talked about “Old Paengaroa”. Our sympathy to Nola and their daughters.
