2018 Hawke's Bay Essay Competition winners

2018 Hawke's Bay Essay Competition winners
NZ Founders Society National President and Hawke's Bay President, Mrs Paddy Bayley, recently announced the winning entries in the essay competition that the Hawke's Bay Branch of the Society has run at Hereworth School, Havelock North for the last two years

The boys in years 7 and 8 were invited to write an essay entitled ‘My Family – A new life in New Zealand’.

Participants were encouraged to research family records and discuss the new lives in New Zealand with parents and relatives.

Nineteen essays were submitted as finalists, and a subcommittee of the Hawke's Bay Branch were impressed by the variety of stories the boys presented – with a touch of humour in some.

This year two entries shared the first prize – Jackson Reynolds and Pete O’ Shaughnessy with a ‘Highly commended’ prize awarded to Maxwell Chadwick.

Mrs Bayley and Hawke's Bay Vice–President, Mrs Kath La Rooy, presented the winners with certificates and prizes at the school assembly on the last day of term  2.

A donation for the Hereworth school library was made to Headmaster, Mr W Kersteen.

The winning 2 essays will be read by the boys at the HB Founders Members meeting in August, and will also be published in the NZ Founders Society's National Bulletin early next year.
