On a beautiful sunny winters Sunday in early July  73 members of the Hawkes Bay Branch enjoyed a luncheon at East Pier Restaurant, Ahururi,  Napier.

At the foot of Mount Kahuranaki on Kahuranaki Station lies a modern building which looks like a woolshed. But it’s not.

Although designed to look like a woolshed, in keeping with its setting, ‘Martie’s Red Shed’ is a museum which houses a novel presentation of many hundreds of artefacts which show the life and times of early farming in New Zealand.

Opened recently, the museum, close to Kahuranaki Road, proved the perfect subject for a recent ‘mystery tour’ by the Hawke’s Bay branch of the New Zealand Founders Society. 

Hawke’s Bay Founders members attending their AGM for 2015-16 at Duart House, Havelock North, were treated to an excellent summary of their past year’s activities by their new President, Paddy Bayley. This was followed by an interesting talk by two Havelock North identities on the history of Duart House.

It’s possibly not so much in vogue now, but the saying, “a chip off the old block” was given a real life example in a recent talk to the Hawke’s Bay branch of the New Zealand Founders Society.
