On Parnell Road we found the colonial (1861) Catholic Church of St. John the Baptist still on its original site, sharing the street with a variety of commercial and public buildings of various ages. The shopping precinct which was largely re-built during the 1970’s, in a colonial style, helps to portray the deliberate “village” ambience, assisted by pretty flowering shrubs and gardens. We were intrigued to find a beautiful hibiscus tree flowering there in early winter.
