Wanganui Branch Commemoration Window

Wanganui Branch Commemoration Window
On Wednesday 9th April 2018, the Wanganui Branch of NZ Founders unveiled the Founders window in the Whanganui District Council Chamber building.

The central dome of the chamber is encircled with stained glass windows depicting many aspects of Wanganui's history from pre-historic megalodon  and ancient geology to Mother Aubert, J K Baxter, Peter Snell, Johnny Devlin, War Memorials and many more. However there was no window commemorating the first official NZ Company settlers.

This has now been rectified with the installation of the Founders window depicting the arrival of the first settlers on 27 February 1841 on the sailing schooner 'Elizabeth' which brought out Mr and Mrs Nixon, Dr and Mrs Peter Wilson and son, Mr Henry Churton, Mr C S Niblett, Mr S King and two Misses King, and three in steerage.

The window is by artist, Julie Greig, and glass artist, Greg Hall.
